Broken Teeth, Lost Fillings

Although teeth are strong, there are times when hard foods can cause teeth to break, or fillings to be lost or cracked. If this happens, it can leave a tooth exposed, leading to sensitivity. It can also lead to sharp edges that can traumatize the tongue and other soft tissues in the mouth. If this has happened, please give us a call and we can help you restore your tooth and provide relief.

Infection, Pain, and Swelling

There are times when cavities end up progressing towards the nerve, which typically results in pain, infection, and swelling. This can be acute, and life threatening, given the airway can become compromised. Typically when this happens, antibiotics are required followed by either a Root Canal Treatment or Extraction.

Gum Swelling

If a cleaning isn’t done regularly, tarter can build up around the teeth, blocking the natural flow of fluids within and around the gums and teeth. This leads to swelling around the gums, and if severe enough, can progress to facial swelling. Typically a course of antibiotics is needed, followed by immediate debridement with our Hygienist.

Lost Tooth, Facial Injury

In the event of trauma, resulting in a lost tooth or facial injury, seeking immediate treatment is needed. X-Rays can help to determine if a jaw fracture has occurred, lacerations may require sutures, and teeth remnants may need to be removed if the injury is severe. Time is of the essence, and we are here to help.

Lost Crown or Lost Bridge

With normal wear and tear, there are times where crowns or bridges can be lost. Without the protection provided by the crown or bridge, the natural tooth stumps are exposed and could break further. As such, crowns and bridges should be be re-cemented as soon as possible to prevent further problems.

Long-Term Ulcers, Sores

Although ulcers are common in the mouth, typically referred to as Aphthous Ulcers; should an ulcer remain in the mouth for longer than 6 weeks, it is an emergency situation. Either there is a source of trauma or local irritation that is leading to the ulcers inability to resolve, and/or other pathophysiology, which may require a biopsy.

Cold and Sweet Sensitivity

One of the earliest signs of a dental infection is sensitivity to cold and sweet. If you have detected this, please give us a call so we can perform a series of tests to determine the status of the tooth. Typically at this stage, a filling may be able to resolve the situation, however a Root Canal may be needed in the future.
